How to keep your bobbins from unwinding

If you sew, you know my pain. Half-full bobbins unraveling in your sewing box, making everything a tangled mess. You can buy these bobbin clamps which are pretty but are $20. I also wanted something clear so the thread color was completely visible. So I decided to make my own.

To make your own DIY bobbin curls or clamps, spend about 8 bucks on some vinyl tubing at the hardware store, like this kind, and get to cutting. There’s 2 steps, both of them cutting. It was so easy I wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. The bobbins stay wound up and are much easier to organize.

There’s not much to it, so here’s a tutorial in a single photograph. Your bobbin size will determine how big you cut yours. I eyeballed my cuts, but you could mark with a sharpie or piece of tape. Cut a ring and then cut it open–that’s it!
